Take this short hike to Carson City, Nevada's little well known waterfall, Kings Canyon Falls!

...Living in California, I know all about waterfalls! For me personally though, no matter the shape or size of the waterfall, it has my interest. Now when it comes to Nevada, I honestly can't think of too many waterfalls off the top of my head, but when you're passing through a town that you're unfamiliar with and a local tells you about a locals favorite waterfall that's worth checking out, you kind of have to do it! I didn't have any intentions of stopping in Carson City, but after finding out there was a fatal 3 car accident on the 395 going south, I decided to hit some breweries in Carson City and stay the night. During that time I met some cool locals that told me about the hike in the area, and that I could even car camp (sleeping in my van) at the parking spot of the trailhead...which was just what I was looking for!

Getting there, you'll go West on Kings Canyon Road towards the mountains for 2.7 miles until you get to the "Waterfall Trail'' parking area. The hike is just under 0.8 miles round trip to the falls, with a gradual incline and elevation gain of 175 ft. The waterfall itself is about 30 feet tall, and is a fairly popular trail for trail runners and family hikes. There's no shade until you reach the falls, so dress appropriately. Also, make sure to stay on the designated trail, as there is private property from homeowners nearby. For those who want to increase the distance of their hike, you can continue hiking the trail past the falls as part of a 2 mile loop back to the parking area. There's also an Upper Kings Canyon Falls loop trail that you could hike, but you'd have to drive a little further up the road to get to that parking area. I did not do that hike due to time, so I don't have much info on it other then what I just gave.

Other then that, the hike is family friendly, easy and very photogenic! The waterfall is best seen during the winter, fall and early spring season, as it starts to trickle during the summer months. As always, leave no trace, pack out what you pack in and never stop exploring! Happy Trails!
