Cottonwood Valley Trail Blue Diamond Loop

Blue Diamond, Nevada

Description

Added by Emily Schrick

Just a short drive west of Las Vegas, the Blue Diamond and Cottonwood Valley trail network delivers a classic desert mountain biking experience right at the edge of town. Managed by the BLM, this interconnected web of singletrack loops threads through rugged Mojave landscapes, Joshua tree forests, and sun-baked washes, creating a mix of terrain that keeps riders exploring all day.

Adventure Type: Mountain biking (multi-trail system).
Surface: Hard-packed dirt, rock, sand, and ledgy sections. Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate options, with challenges sprinkled throughout. Best Time to Visit: Cooler months (fall through spring) for the most comfortable riding.

The heart of the experience here is variety: flowy beginner-friendly segments and harder, rockier sections sit side by side, giving riders of all skill levels a chance to enjoy the desert terrain. Meandering through open valley sides and shaded washes, the network lets you piece together loops that fit your pace, whether that’s a relaxed spin through scenic Joshua trees or a longer challenge of climbs and descents that reward you with panoramic desert views.

Hours of Use: Trails open daily: sunrise to sunset.
Parking and Facilities: Good parking area with pit toilets and a bike maintenance tool station at the Late Night Trailhead for the Cottonwood Valley trail system. Facilities are limited, so plan to be self-sufficient.
Permits & Fees: Free public access; no permits or entry fees required.
Are Dogs Allowed: Yes, on leash.

What to Bring:
- Plenty of water and sun protection
- A helmet and bike repair tools
- Snacks or lunch for longer rides
