Set high in Nevada’s Spring Mountains, the Lower Bristlecone Pine Trail offers a refreshing mountain escape where shaded singletrack and sweeping mountain views create a peaceful outdoor retreat.
Just a scenic 1-hour drive from Las Vegas, this trail winds through groves of ancient bristlecone pines and mixed conifers - making it a favorite for hikers, runners, and bikers.
Trail Type: Out-and-back singletrack. Surface: Packed dirt with natural mountain tread. Difficulty: Easy to moderate, family-friendly. Best Time to Visit: Late spring through early fall for mild mountain temps.
The Lower Bristlecone Pine Trail strolls gently through stands of bristlecone and limber pines, which are the oldest tree species in the region. Occasional clearings open up big views of the surrounding ridges and valleys below. Because the trail stays mostly shaded and is at a higher elevation, it’s a perfect choice for a half-day wander when lower elevations are baking.
Hours of Use: Open daily: sunrise to sunset.
Parking and Facilities: A big trailhead parking lot is near the forest access road; basic facilities may be limited.
Permits & Fees: Standard recreation pass may be required for access to national forest lands.
Are Dogs Allowed: Yes, on a leash.
What to Bring:
- Water and sun protection (even on shaded trails)
- Comfortable shoes with good tread
- Layers for changing mountain weather
While visiting, please follow the Dirt Road Code.
