Delamar Ghost Town
Delamar, Nevada
Description
Added by Emily Schrick
Tucked into the stark hills of southeastern Nevada, Delamar Ghost Town is a hauntingly beautiful relic of the Old West.
Just off Highway 318, this impressive site offers history lovers, photographers, and curious explorers a chance to view one of the best preserved sites in Nevada.
Adventure Type: Self-guided historical exploration. Surface: Dirt paths and rocky terrain. Difficulty: Easy, with uneven ground in places. Best Time to Visit: Fall through spring for moderate temperatures.
Delamar’s story begins in the 1890s, when rich silver deposits drew miners and entrepreneurs to this remote corner of Nevada. At its peak, the town bustled with saloons, homes, and businesses - today, many fragments remain: collapsed walls, rusted mining equipment, and massive foundations etched into sandy soil. There’s no official trail here, so you can explore at your own pace.
Hours of Use: Open daily, sunrise to sunset.
Getting there: Turn off Hwy 93 and head south (don’t turn off Hwy 93 near Alamo like Google Maps might try to suggest). AWD recommended getting to the cemetery. The hike will be around 4 miles with about 500 feet of elevation gain round-trip from this point. 4WD and high clearance are necessary past the cemetery. The road is very rough.
Parking and Facilities:
Pull-off parking is available near the site; there are no facilities, so bring what you need. Cell service is very unlikely here.
Permits & Fees: No entrance fee for day visits.
Are Dogs Allowed: Yes, on leash.
What to Bring:
- Plenty of water and sun protection
- Sturdy shoes for uneven ground
- A hat and layers for changing weather
- A camera to capture historic ruins and sweeping desert views
While visiting, please follow the Dirt Road Code.
