The Cannon River offers a great opportunity to kayak or canoe in Welch, MN. There is a 5-mile trip takes 1-2 hours; $30/Canoe, $25/Solo Kayak, $30/Tandem Kayak and a 12-mile trip takes 3-4 hours; $40/Canoe, $30/Solo Kayak, $40/Tandem Kayak available from local outfitters as well as shuttle service.
If you want a quiet, secluded paddle, this may not be the adventure for you. The Cannon River is a very popular destination in the summer months for groups of canoers, kayakers and tubers. Drinking on the river is not discouraged.
Book a reservation with Welch Mill. They provide shuttle service, life jackets, canoes/kayaks and paddles (cash only). Pack a cooler of beverages and push off down the river. The current moves quickly enough that you'll use your paddle more for steering than forward momentum. The river snakes through bluffs and over light rapids. Keep an eye out for eagles overhead.
