About this place

Added by Joe Whitson

Ride along Michigan's top fat tire route with exciting single track trails and great views of the Dead River.

The Noquemenon Trail Network (NTN) is an extensive network of non-motorized trails in and around Marquette, MI and has become a popular site for winter fat tire biking. If you haven't fat tire biked before, the benefit of the nearly four inch wide tires is that it gives you incredible traction on ice and loose surfaces like snow or sand, making mountain biking a four season sport.

If you don't have your own bikes, you can rent them at Lakeshore Bike in Marquette. From Lakeshore Bike, either ride or drive to the North Noquemenon Trailhead to access the best bike trails. The NTN offers various routes depending on how long you are looking to bike - all of the routes are worth doing with elevation changes, tight turns, and beautiful views. If you are just looking for a quick experience, follow the trail from the parking lot along the Dead River Reservoir and back. If you're looking for something a little long, continue on the trail all the way to the Dead River Dam and the frozen Dead River Falls.

As with all winter adventures, dress in layers for your fat tire biking. Your hands will likely remain cold, so wear warm mittens, but the rest of you will warm up quickly even on very cold days.
