About this place

Added by Andy Merkel

If you've already done Chapel Beach, come to Mosquito Beach for a unique adventure, great waterfalls going into the lake, and rocky shoreline!

Start at the Chapel Basin parking lot at the far northwest corner (if you see signs for Chapel Rock, you picked the wrong trail!), and you will be gifted with a great hike downhill at first. The trail will split and you will have to choose to go the falls route or the direct route. I would suggest starting on the falls route (it is a loop out to the beach at this point), that way if you need to cut your hike short, you at least saw the waterfalls!

At around 20-30 minutes, you will reach Mosquito Falls on your right. You will follow the river for another 5-10 minutes and see Spectacle Falls on your right again.

You will continue for another 20-40 minutes and eventually, you will start to hear the waves coming in from Lake Superior!

Once you are down on the beach, head toward the right (Eastward) and you will eventually find your way to the river and rocky bedrock floors of the shoreline. You can climb right up the ladder at this point and continue your path back to the parking lot, or explore a bit on the shoreline and enjoy the crystal-clear waters on the lake!

Once you are ready to head home, follow signs for Mosquito Beach Campground which will take you the right way back to the parking lot. The trail on the way back past the campground is a direct thick forested path so you can most likely make it back within about 30-40 minutes. There are bathrooms at the parking lot if you need to make a pit stop!

You should set aside a good 2-3 hours for this loop as there is a lot to see along the way!

Note: Dogs are not permitted on this trail per the National Park Service.
