Hike Sugarloaf Mountain, MI

Marquette, Michigan

Description

Added by Shalee Blackmer

360 view of the Upper Peninsula. Best sunset view in Marquette. Ideal place for reflection. Located right along the shores of Lake Superior~1 mile roundtrip. 460 foot elevation gain.

Located just outside Marquette, Sugarloaf Mountain offers stunning 360 views of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The trail is short with two route options: difficult and easy.

The difficult trail is still extremely easy, with the distance to the top under a half mile. The last couple hundred feet are guided by a staircase. Despite the mild trek, the view is not to be missed. At the top, platforms and rock faces allow for an uninterrupted view over Lake Superior and the surrounding hill landscapes.

The best time to make the hike is for sunset. Although Marquette is the Upper Peninsula's largest town, there is barely a hint of human life below. It appears to have nothing but nature, forests and open water for miles in every direction. If you’re lucky, a freighter will be slowly drifting across the horizon.

It is peaceful, it is beautiful and it is the perfect definition of Michigan beauty.
