The Bass Lake Loop is an approximately 3.5‑mile loop nestled within the Platte Plains trail network of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It winds gently through a lightly rolling terrain of pine-hardwood forest, passing Bass Lake, Deer Lake, and wetland areas—perfect spots to pause, rest on a bench, and take in the tranquility and wildlife.

A park pass is required for trail use within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Parking is available at several trailheads:

Trail End Rd (gravel lot with vault toilets, maps)

Esch Beach area (paved parking, vault toilets)

Platte River Campground (paved lot, flush toilets, water access nearby).

Pet Policy & Season Restrictions

Dogs are permitted on the Bass Lake Loop from April 1 to November 30.

Pets are not allowed December 1 through March 31 for trail use across mainland trails in the park.

While on permitted dates, dogs must be on a 6‑foot leash and under immediate control.
Hiking & Biking Info

Hiking: The trail is easy to moderate, with gentle hills and mostly flat terrain, ideal for an immersive forest and lakeside stroll.

Biking: Bicycles are only permitted on roads and the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, not on inland loops like Bass Lake Loop.

Multi‑use? Mountain biking is not recommended or allowed.

Key wildlife/hunting seasons, particularly deer rifle season from Nov 15–30, require extra vigilance—wear bright clothing and stay on trails.
