Aileen Getty Ridge Trail links a multitude of Los Angeles' iconic views, Burbank and Cahuenga peaks, the Hollywood Sign, and the Wisdom Tree all in one moderate hike. This ridge trail comes complete with a moderate workout and even a slight adrenaline rush as you traverse the ridge itself between Cahuenga Peak and Mount Lee.

The Aileen Getty Ridge Trail is a singletrack trail that runs between Mt. Lee and Burbank Peak (the location of the Wisdom Tree). Though there are many options to access this trail, the most direct route is from the west via the Wonder View Trailhead. Start by parking on Lake Hollywood Drive near the Lake Hollywood Reservoir. Begin walking east along Wonder View Drive passing the yellow gate, and continue onto the the dirt road trail. 300 feet past the gate look for a singletrack trail branching off to the right, this leads to the Tree of Life. The 0.5-mile Tree of Life Trail is a dry and hot uphill climb that ends at the tree, providing great views and a place to have a snack.

Though most people end their adventure here and turn back to their cars, for you this is where the Aileen Getty Ridge Trail begins. From the Wisdom Tree head northeast for 0.5 miles, the trail climbs slowly to its highest point, Cahuenga Peak. At 1820 feet Cahuenga Peak is the twelfth highest peak in the Santa Monica Mountain Range and offers excellent views to both the north and south. Continuing east from the peak, the Aileen Getty Ridge trail drops down into what I consider the fun part. Beginning with a steep scramble down boulders and small cliffs, the trail opens up into the 0.4 mile saddle which connects Cahuenga Peak with Mount Lee. Once on the other side of the saddle, you can take in the views of the Hollywood sign from either the Hugh Hefner lookout or the top of Mount Lee. When you are ready to return, just follow the same path back to your car completing the 3 mile round trip hike.

For those that would prefer a longer or alternate route the Aileen Getty Ridge Trail can be accessed from either the Bush Canyon or Hollyridge Trails.

Aileen Getty Ridge Trail Reviews

This was something I’d been wanting to do for a bit! Hiking along the spine of this mountain on the trail. There are many places to stop to get a full view of LA and from that elevation, it’s quite beautiful. Getting to observe the lively city from afar. Wisdom tree is a great place to photograph it. It’s quite steep actually and there’s a fun bit where you go under trees. Feels a bit forest like, but then you get to the glorious Hollywood Sign. Breathtaking to say the least!
