Catch the "Super Bloom" in Lake Elsinore, California

Catch the California "super bloom" while making your way along a series of easy trails through fields of orange poppy flowers.

While the "super bloom" is being experienced in several places throughout California, perhaps the best place to catch it in Orange County is in Lake Elsinore. I would recommend heading to Walker Canyon where you'll find a series of fairly easy trails. Park along Lake St. road and then begin up the main trail head. After several minutes the trail will begin to split off in different directions. The main trail continues gradually uphill around several corners before branching off more. There are huge fields of orange poppies in every direction so feel free to head off in whatever direction you want! There are certain (optional) areas that are very steep and slippery so I would highly recommend wearing tennis shoes or some other kind of sturdy closed toe shoes. Since the trail is easy this is a great place to go with the whole family as it's doable by all physical capabilities!

The only downside to this adventure is the massive amounts of crowds. I went on a Sunday morning (not the best idea) and there were easily several hundred if not a thousand people there. The good news is that if you continue hiking up for around 30 minutes, the crowds begin to dissipate. This is easily avoidable if you don't go at the most popular time of the week so if you have flexibility I would recommend going during a weekday. Make sure to get out there in the next week or two to catch the flowers while they're still at their peak! Check out some photos below.
