Description

Added by Elyse Clark

Hike along the Auxier Ridge to some of the best landmarks in the Red River Gorge.

Start at the trailhead located just past the Gray's Arch picnic area. Follow Auxier Ridge Trail #204 (white diamonds). You will pass a trail junction at 0.9 miles, but continue on Auxier Ridge. At the following fork in the trail keep right.

Along the trail, you will catch views from the ridge of Raven's Rock, Double Arch, Courthouse Rock, and the surrounding valley. Be careful of the steep cliffs.

A staircase will take you down from the ridge, where you will head onto Courthouse Rock Trail. In 0.3 miles turn right onto Auxier Branch Trail, which follows along a creek. At 3.1 miles take the Double Arch Trail #201 to the right, leading to Double Arch.

Retrace your steps to the Auxier Branch Trail junction. Finally, follow Double Arch Trail back to the parking lot.

Hike to Courthouse Rock and Double Arch Reviews

Courthouse Rock and Double Arch Trails are perhaps the most scenic in the Red River Gorge. The trails are well-kept and well-marked with plenty of spots to rest and take in the views.

Easy hike with beautiful views!

Auxier Ridge is one of my favorite power loops in the Gorge. From Haystack Rock, to the Wizard's Backbone, on over to Courthouse Rock and Double Arch there is plenty of beautiful vistas and rock formations to explore! Scramble down if front of Haystack Rock to a shallow cave. Marvel at the valleys below while crossing the Wizard's Backbone. Scale to the top of Courthouse Rock for incredible 360 degree views. And climb to on top of Double Arch to view it all from the other side of the valley!

My first experience in the Gorge did not disappoint with this hike. A handful of scenic overlooks, room for sketchy excursions (if you're looking), and plenty of variety in this hike. Follow the white diamonds and you'll have a great half day-er!
