Explore Monte Baldo

5774 ft gain - Out-and-Back Trail

Originally added by Shelby Bauer

This adventure is perfect for anyone looking for some mountains in Italy! Take the funicular cable car up Monte Baldo, which provides excellent views of Lake Garda, and explore the mountain up top as you are literally above the clouds!

The Malcesine Funicular Cableway is the easiest and most direct way to get to the top of Monte Baldo. Monte Baldo is located in the region of Lake Garda, about a 2 hour bus ride from Verona, Italy.

Once at the funicular, purchase your tickets and take the funicular up! You'll transfer to a second cablecar about halfway up the mountain. Be sure to look around as you ascend the mountain, the cablecar ride provides amazing views of Lake Garda below. The funicular takes about 30 minutes each way.

At the top of the mountain, you have a few options! You can hike, visit the small alpaca farm (where you can even go on a trek with the alpacas), go to one of the mountain-top restaurants, and even paraglide down to the lake below. If you are wanting to paraglide, there are plenty of services available, just make sure to book in advance! The rates are around $200 for a 30-60 minute ride. There are plenty of hiking trails, varying in length, and most are pretty steep, since Monte Baldo is full of hills at the top. As with most of Italy and Europe, Monte Baldo is dog friendly, so fee free to bring your four-legged hiking pal with you!

The most important thing to keep in mind about this adventure is timing. Make sure you research the bus schedules if you are traveling from Verona or another neighboring town, and be sure to check the cablecar schedule too.
