Some of the best hot springs in the Tuscan countryside can be found at Bagni San Filippo.
The Tuscan countryside is famous for its vineyards, rolling hills, and amazing wine, but what you probably didn't know, is that it's also home to some of Italy's best hot springs. In an area known as Bagni San Filippo, a stream littered with hot springs flows through the woods on the edge of a small town, Castiglione d'Orcia a munucipality in the Province of Siena.
To access the pools, park along the road on the edge of town and follow a path down to the creek. The main path leads to some large pools at the bottom of a calciferous rock formation. You'll be able to smell the sulfur in the air as you get close to the pools. From this point, many visitors make their way downstream where there's many thermal pools of varying temperatures to choose from. Some of the most spectacular pools are on the side of a large calciferous formation called Fosso Bianco meaning "white whale". Just be advised that the higher up you go, the water gets hotter. What many visitors don't know is that there is another set of pools upstream. These pools are frequented by the locals because the smell of sulfur in minimal.
