Details
Added by Lucas Bremer
Recreation abounds within one of Illinois' lesser known state parks.
Beautiful rolling hills and woods surround Lake Murphysboro and provide opportunities for boating, fishing, picnicking, camping and hiking.
Paddling is a perfect past time here. Canoe, Kayak, and Paddle Boards are all allowed much of the year. If fishing is on the agenda, a 10 hp maximum outboard motor is all that is allowed. A smaller lake, appropriately called Little Lake, is located just north of Lake Murphysboro.
For campers, well-equipped campsites located on the scenic shores of the lake. for more rugged campers will have the choice of 20 tent sites. 54 trailer sites that are equipped with electricity. Three Class A handicapped sites and one Class B/S handicapped site are available. A sanitary disposal station is located near the trailer area. All campers must obtain a camp permit from the campground host.
There are several picnic areas and shelters throughout the park each with plenty of parking. There are also over 3 miles of hiking trails with moderate difficulty that criss-cross the park.
