The Starved Rock and Sandstone Point Overlook Trail is a 4.4 mile loop. The trail features views of the river valley, and is well known as a great spot for seeing eagles and other birds!
The trail is paved with lots of steps, so it is accessible for a variety of skill levels. This trail is great for hiking, and the park features spots for picnicking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and camping.
This trail is just outside of Oglesby, Illinois. Great for school aged kids. Dogs are allowed on trail if kept on leash. Get there early in the fall, as this trail becomes crowded with people eager to see the colorful leaves!

Hike Starved Rock and Sandstone Point Overlook Trail Reviews
I grew up in Illinois, a state that desperately lacks notable landscapes, National parks and hiking trails. Starved Rock is, therefore, quite the gem and offers the unique opportunity to escape city and suburban life for a weekend in nature. The Sandstone Point and Overlook Trail is great for families, offers some beautiful views and is well-marked and well-maintained. I would highly recommend oh visit in the early fall when the leaves are changing color, the weather is cooler and animals are still active. Remember to bring plenty of water and snacks, be safe and have fun!
