Camp at Oak Point Campground

Golconda, Illinois

Description

Added by Lucas Bremer

Along the shores of Lake Glendale is a great base camp to the Shawnee National Forest.

Oak Point Campground is located in the Lake Glendale Recreation Area, there are 34 full hook up sites and 25 primitive tent camping sites. Group camping is also available at the Duck Bay Shelter and the Goose Bay Shelter.

All sites are first come first serve and does get crowded on Summer weekends and holidays. 14 of the sites have lake views and access to portage canoes and kayaks. There is also a trail around the lake and has campground access for most sites in the area.

This is a great place for families to camp and has several amenities such as showers, flush toilets, and playgrounds. There is a camping attendant on property that also sells bags of ice and firewood. The campground is well maintained by the forest service and allows this to be a base camp for all the area attractions.

More information is found on the parks website here.
