Silver Creek Preserve is a fabulous float just outside the tiny town of Picabo, Idaho, on Silver Creek. The creek is spring fed and so is absolutely crystal clear. The float is easy, safe and excellent for new kayakers and children. The water levels are low, the bottom of the stream bed is almost always visible, affording a great view of aquatic plants and fish, that make this area world famous for anglers. There are specific guidelines for sharing the stream with anglers, who have the right of way. Keep your talking to a minimum and enjoy the bird song and keep to river right, when approaching anglers, unless they direct you otherwise. Stay in your kayak, unless you need to step out to pull it out of shallow areas. No dogs are allowed on the preserve.

Float through the picturesque Silver Creek Preserve, but remember that you must check in with the preserve before floating. Make a stop at the beautiful new building and sign in via a QR code or you can do it ahead of time online. Super easy. The put in is at Stocker Creek Bridge, you can leave your vehicle along the gravel road. Then sit back, relax and enjoy the beauty all around you, this is a nature preserve and we have seen moose, cranes and raptors nesting along this stretch. You will be surrounded by birds, singing and flitting all around you. This float is about three miles long and will take about two hours. There is a wooden bridge that may require an easy portage, but we have always been able to float under it. It is an easy take out at Kilpatrick Bridge.

Take food and water and enjoy a floating picnic, use plenty of sunscreen and always Leave No Trace.

Kayak Silver Creek Preserve Reviews

This was our first time kayaking the preserve. There were some mosquitos when we put in, once we got going no bugs at all. we saw 3 moose, some deer, and owls. I would highly recommend having a pickup vehicle at the end. We were able to paddle the whole way back upstream but it was a workout! Make sure you wear sunscreen and take a hat.
