Surround yourself with 2,400 acres of volcanic ash hoodoos in a quiet corner of southern Idaho. Don't forget your camera.

Located near Gooding, Idaho, the Little City of Rocks provides endless wandering through volcanic ash hoodoos and sagebrush desert.

The parking area is less than two miles down a decently graded dirt road. In spring there is a water crossing. If your car cannot cross park and walk the short distance to the trailhead.

Little City of Rocks's main trail lollipops for a total distance of 4.2 miles. The first 1.5 miles are well marked, route finding skills are necessary to complete the entire loop. Numerous side trails lead the way to unique views and, if you're lucky, well hidden petroglyphs.

Primitive camping is allowed. Pack it in, pack it out.

Look out for rattlesnakes in the warm months, and be diligent about managing for heat in summer.
