Makua Cave, also known as Kaneana, is a historic and interesting destiation located about an hour from Honolulu along Farrington Highway. The cave is an impressive natural formation, around 100 feet tall and 450 feet deep, and its coastal location makes for a scenic drive with nearby beaches like Makaha and Keeau Beach Park.

Steeped in Hawaiian mythology, the cave is said to be home to Kamahoalii, a shape-shifting shark man who preyed on humans. This legend adds a mysterious aura to the cave, attracting visitors intrigued by both history and local folklore.

When exploring the cave's interior, you’ll notice its smooth, wet walls glisten from the water dripping inside, creating an eerie yet captivating atmosphere. Deeper in the cave are small tunnels that some adventurers explore, but caution is advised as these areas can be dangerous.

In addition to the cave, the surrounding area offers beautiful ocean views and is a great spot to catch a sunset. Makua Cave's unique history and natural beauty make it a unique stop for when visiting the island.
