Hike Rogovo Ovires Natural Lakes

Not only can you hike at the Rogovo Ovires Natural Lakes... but you can also take a dip!

Half-way on the road from Mikro to Megalo Papigko, two of the most beautiful villages of the Epirus region in northern Greece, lies an amazing rocky landscape named Rogovo Ovires (Ρογκοβό Οβίρες in greek).

Rogovo Ovires is a small gorge that at its basin a series of small natural lakes are formed. The water comes from a stream that in the beginning of the gorge forms a waterfall. The gorge is quite narrow and packed of trees and abundant vegetation including rare wild flowers.

The approach is very easy as you can park your car on the paved road in the beginning of the gorge. The terrain is very smooth to cross and walking does not present any difficulty, however I would suggest wearing hiking shoes so that you can reach till the waterfall. The waters are clear and you can bath/swim in several of the small lakes that are formed and flat rocks around provide ample space where you can lay and rest or enjoy the nature. There is abundant natural shade.

As mentioned the small gorge is between the two villages of Papigko. Both villages are very beautiful to visit and you can spend the rest of the day there, where all facilities are available. The overall area of Zagorohoria is also worth exploring and it is the wildest mountain and forest area in Greece, meaning that for avid hikers and mountaineers it is a small paradise.
