Trail Running in Morningside Nature Preserve

Georgia Morningside Nature Preserve Trail

Added by

Relax on the shores of the South Fork Peachtree Creek. This preserved area is good for well-behaved dogs off leash.

Park your car on the residential road and look across the street into the woods for the trail. The trail winds around through a bamboo forest with streams winding in and out. The trail splits and you can either take the high road or low road closer to the river. Both trails meet back up near the river (Peachtree Creek) and the really cool suspension bridge.

From here, you can take a right towards the powerline ridge or across the bridge and wind through the lowlands to a beautiful staircase, eventually ending up at the Lenox Rd. parking area. Not recommended in summer months due to overgrown vegetation.

How to Get There

In-Town Staple

For what it is, it's great. You can definitely still see and hear signs of city life throughout a lot of the preserve, but it's perfect for a quick fix. It's down the street from where we live so I go here to run, let the dogs swim, read, or just when I need a little me time.

Awesome

A hidden secret in Atlanta that you can let dog off leash and chill on a sandy beach by the creek, chill, listen to tunes, drink beers and watch your dog play in water all day long.

Lake Burton is, in my opinion, Georgia's most scenic large lake.  It is completely surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and has some of the clearest water in the state.

Georgia / Trahlyta Lake Trailhead

Lake Trahlyta in Vogel State Park offers a truly unique combination of natural beauty and opportunity for recreation.

Kayak to Lake Allatoona Waterfall

Georgia / Olde Rope Mill Park

Kayak from the Olde Rope Mill Park to the Lake Allatoona Waterfall (1.5 mile paddle from park to waterfall). This easy lake paddle is great for beginners.  Waterfall Coordinates: 34.1436403,-84.
