Description

Added by Matthew Koehnemann

The trails at Chicopee Woods are an excellently maintained group of trails located near Gainesville, Georgia and are some of the top trails in the southeastern United States. The Flying Squirrel Trail is a fantastically flowy trail with enough roots and rocks to keep you on your technical game.

There is a designated parking lot for the Chicopee Woods mountain bike trails with plenty of parking, but it can fill up on weekends. To access the trailhead for Flying Squirrel, you have to take a few other trails (a good warm-up!) to get back to a junction known as ‘Confusion Corner’, which is where Flying Squirrel both begins and ends.

From there, the trail is a flowy 4.7 miles of heart bumping singletrack with enough uphill to make you feel like you have earned the rewarding downhill with sweeping turns in and out of the landscapes multiple ravines. The trail is hard packed red clay (this is Georgia) allowing you to accelerate quickly and enough roots and rocks to make it a technical challenge as well.
