Description

Added by Alyssa Gregory

Hvar Fortress is an uphill walk with rewarding views of Hvar town and harbor.

The entrance to the path up to the fortress is on Ulica Higijeničkog Društva. There's a long stairway you can walk up to get to it but it's not named on a map. It's to the left of the street called Kroz Grodu. You'll find the entrance easily, it's not hidden.

The path up to the fortress consists of several switchbacks. It can be a little strenuous if it's a hot, sunny day, so be sure to bring water. The stone can also be a bit slippery so make sure you're wearing good shoes and be careful. It's not too long, and shouldn't take more than a half hour to get to the top.

You do not have to pay to walk up the path, but you do have to pay to go into the fortress (30kn though it could change), so bring some cash for that.

At the top, you'll find the Spanish Fortress. You can walk around the fortress to take in the variety of views of Hvar's old town and harbor below as well as the Pakleni Islands in the distance. There are also a couple of little cafes up here.
