Take a Sloth Tour Near Arenal Volcano

A private trail just outside of La Fortuna, Costa Rica has a high concentration of sloths that can often be spotted along the short hike. The land here is very dense with vegetation making it a perfect home for the sloth. Most of the land surrounding this 9 hectares lot has been cleared for farming or development.  

The sloth tour is located just off the side of the highway between Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna. There are several large signs making it easy to find. Plenty of parking is available just outside of the entrance. A small entry fee is required and guided tours are available. There are multiple trails that snake through the area so you can explore as much or as little as you like. I highly recommend doing the guided tour as the guide often knows exactly where the sloths will be. Also keep your eyes peeled for a variety of other wildlife within the area. There is an abundance of frogs nest to the small ponds along the trails. Be sure to stop by the gift shop on the way out. All proceeds go to maintaining the land and ensuring a good habitat for the sloths.
