Just minutes from downtown Crested Butte, with another trailhead in Mt. Crested Butte, the out-and-back trail run on Snodgrass Mountain undulates through thick aspen groves with amazing views of the Butte the whole time.
Looking for an easy trail run, close to town, with killer views? Snodgrass Mountain Trail is one of your best bets, with flowy singletrack through aspen groves and views of Mt. Gothic and Mt. Crested Butte. While there are endless beautiful trails to hike and run in the Crested Butte area, this one is especially suited for running. Rather than most hikes in the mountains that go all the way up and then all the way down, this trail undulates through the forest, and it can be run in either direction just as easily.
There are two trailheads. The one marked on the map is on Washington Gulch Road. There is also a trailhead just past Mt. Crested Butte on the left. The trail goes directly between the two trailheads and can be run in either direction - it is up to you to choose. Halfway through the trail is a great viewpoint over Mt. Crested Butte (main picture). The only time you'll see Mt. Gothic is right near the Washington Gulch trailhead (2nd picture).
This trail is frequented by mountain bikers and hikers as well. Being a mountain biker myself, I would never choose to bike this trail. It is too short, there are no great downhills, and you're constantly pedaling in both directions. There are 50 better biking trails near Crested Butte. For a trail run, however, I think this trail is perfect. You can really get a flow going through the aspen... so much so that you forget you're at nearly 10,000 ft!

Trail Run at Snodgrass Mountain Reviews
A different kind of beautiful in the winter! Snodgrass Trail is a popular one in Crested Butte and for good reason: its not that difficult (though it is an incline at elevation!), you can make it a lollipop loop (and a few trails to do so), and it has amazing views! We enjoyed Snodgrass via hiking but there were plenty of people ski touring, and we saw snowshoe tracks as well. There is a portapotty at the trailhead/parking lot.
