Watch Sunset from the Lost Gulch Overlook
Details
Added by Nate Luebbe
A short dive up the very steep Flagstaff mountain brings you to incredible views spanning from the eastern plains to the jagged, snow-capped peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park.
From Boulder, drive west on Baseline road. Continue up for about 5.5 miles past the Flagstaff Summit (Realization Point) pull off. After some more steep and very tight switchbacks there will be a dirt parking lot on the north side of the road.
From here you can head northwest towards the cliff overlook, or east towards a nicely wooded area with picnic tables and a great view over the plains and downtown boulder.
The walk is less than 0.1 miles, but it does cover some very uneven ground and steep rocks. Please take care and bring appropriate traction devices in the winter.
From the Lost Gulch Overlook cliff top you can see all the way past Nederland into the Indian Peaks Wilderness, and Rocky Mountain National Park. One of my absolute favorite places to watch the sunset if I'm not in mood for a big hike.

Beautiful overlook, and a super quick drive from Boulder. If you only have a short amount of time to spend in town, its definitely a worthwhile stop.
