Green Mountain's MTB Loop is easy to access from the Denver-Metro Area. This trail is a great confidence builder for the beginner rider or great after-work lap for more seasoned pro. Year-round access. No clockwise/counter-clockwise regulations.

Skip the bar and spend happy hour hiking/biking this fun and easy loop. With convenient access from the Denver-Metro Area, this spot is perfect for a quick ride after work, or hike with your dog.

The park has three parking lots, and the trail can be completed as a loop system (in either direction), from any of the three points. Accessing the Green Mountain Trailhead from the Florida parking lot (off of Alameda) and riding in a counter-clockwise direction will offer bikers a steeper initial climb with a longer downhill segment.

Leaving from the Florida lot, take the trail to the right, which will immediately throws you into a steep climb with two big switchbacks. WhIle the climb will continue for about a mile from the parking lot, this initial climb is the steepest part of the ride, and the grade will become more gradual as you continue towards the radio tower at the top of the hill.

After the first big climb, you will come across a trail that breaks off to the left, but you should continue right. You will ultimately want to summit at the radio tower. From here, there is a great view of downtown Denver to the east.

Next take the service road that continues west, towards the mountains, for another half mile. Before you reach the top of this hill, there will be a single track trail that cuts to the left, marked as the Rooney Valley Trail.

Take the Rooney Valley Trail, which heads southwest toward Red Rocks, I-70, and the Speedway. When you approach the next intersection continue on the Rooney Valley Connector, heading east. This is where the decent begins and continues for about a mile.

When the trail levels out again, you will come to another intersection. Keep left and re-join the Green Mountain Loop back in the direction of the parking lot.

The trail will be fairly flowy for the remainder of the ride with a few additional short climbs. There are additional marked trail intersections, but you will continue straight on the Green Mountain Trail.

Remember during your ride that bikes must yield to those on foot, and also that uphill riders have right-of-way. Also note that due to the proximity of this trail to the city, you will likely encounter other people enjoying this route.

Green Mountain Mountain Bike Loop Reviews

Some of the best trail views in Denver. There's not much shelter or cover so it gets hot in the summer and cold when windy.
