Horsetooth Falls and Horsetooth Rock Trail Reviews
Did this in late spring & late summer. This trail is my all time favorite in Fort Collins, Colorado. The hike to Horsetooth Falls is quick, scenic, and beginner-friendly, though the waterfall is just a trickle in the summer (spring is better for that). Continued up to Horsetooth Rock, steeper and more challenging but totally worth it for the panoramic views at the top. Trail was a bit hot and exposed so start early and bring plenty of water. Saw a rattlesnake off-trail, so stay alert during summer months.

[January 2024] All that fresh snow made this hike such a pretty one today. It was like a winter wonderland. Horsetooth falls were completely frozen. Snow was super soft today so didn’t need the micro spikes but better to carry them and be prepared. If you are planning this hike right after fresh snowfall, it is very very cold, please bundle up nicely, and keep hydrating. We did this as a sunset hike and it was just spectacular. We reached the trailhead just 20 minutes after sunset and the temps dropped drastically in that time. We may be crossed 2 couples and one guy with the dog in the whole time we hiked. Overall such an amazing day.
