Hike to the top of one of those most prominent mountains as you enter Jasper National Park!
This mountain is one of those most prominent features as you enter Jasper National Park. Although it's North Face is sheer, this scramble leads you up the North East Col to the summit.
3.5km West of the Miette Hot Spring road there is a small parking lot with a gate. Park here and follow a forestry road that winds to the left to find the trailhead. It is marked with flagging tape and logs across the road that help you from missing it.
The initial path through the forest doesn't provide much elevation gain, but the path is easy to follow. Crossing a drainage, you can elevation quickly and begin a long incline up to gain the ridge. This part of the hike can be very windy, but keep your head down and go!
Once on the saddle enjoy the views and follow the carins. Many people use this as a lunch spot and then turn back.
The final push up the scree field is a long and difficult scramble up. The path is easy to follow. Keep to your right for more of a scramblers ascent, or to the left for the grind up.
The summit lies across a plateau-like top, but keep going to the sheer drop off the North Face for the best view!
