About this place

Added by Cassidy Vanderhoek

Enjoy incredible views of Upper & Lower Kananaskis Lakes. Its a hard trek up, but totally worth the views.

Take Hwy. 40 to Kananaskis Lakes Trail. Continue on this road until you reach a turn off for Upper Kananaskis Lake Day Use Area. This is your trail head. Follow the trail along west side of the lake. After about 1 km you will reach Sarrail Falls. Shortly after crossing the bridge, take the trail left up the mountainside. Climb for another 1.5-2 km's and you will reach Rawson Lake. This part of the hike is popular and you will most likely see lots of people on the trail. There are some switchbacks, but for the most part it's a steady climb until you reach the lake.

Once you've reached the lake, continue on the trail around the left side. You will see a sign marking the end of the 'Rawson Lake Hike'. Scoot around the lake to the far North West side and begin the steep ascent up the grassy slope to the top of the ridge. This is the hardest part of the hike. Its steep (no switchbacks) and unforgiving! You will probably wonder why on earth you are climbing such a steep slope but continue on. The views at the top are 100% worth it! Once you're at the top, take in the incredible views of Upper & Lower Kananskis lakes. Keep in mind that hiking poles will be very helpful on the way down.

Happy Trails!
