Ha Ling Sunrise Hike

Canada Goat Creek Parking Lot

Added by Matt Ford

This hike offers a unique, but reasonably easy to access view point of Canmore, which makes this a must do! Enjoy the beautiful views down of the Bow Valley as the sun rises.

Start at the Goat Creek parking lot and cross the road towards Ha Ling. There is an access road with a gate on the other side. Walk up the road and across the bridge. From there the trail is obvious and will lead you to the summit. Overall it's a fairly easy hike with switchbacks

Once above tree line the trail changes to scree and there are a few options to get the rest of the way up. While not overly steep, good route finding skills will make this safer and easier.

There are a few rock walls built that will keep you out of the wind and enjoying the view, but consider bringing some hot chocolate or tea to stay warm!

Pack List

Make sure to dress appropriately for the season. It's almost always windy near the summit and the trail can be extremely slippery in the spring or after a freeze/thaw cycle.

  • Hiking Boots
  • Yak Traks or crampons
  • Camera
  • Extra layers
  • Toque
  • Gloves
  • Food
  • Water
  • Stove

An Amazing Hike For Slightly Above Average Hikers

It's up hill the whole way and does get your heavy breathing out. A stunning view but hard on your knees on the way down.

Great Hike

Definitely arrive early to avoid the crowds, other than that this hike is great and pretty straight-forward! It's well worth your time and the climb.
