Added by Outbound
The Taft Point Trail via Glacier Point Road is one of Yosemite’s most rewarding short hikes, offering massive granite cliffs, dizzying drop-offs, and unforgettable views of Yosemite Valley, El Capitan, and Yosemite Falls—all without the crowds of more popular viewpoints. This relatively easy hike takes you to one of the most iconic photo spots in the park, especially around sunset.
Trail Overview
-
Location: Glacier Point Road, Yosemite National Park, CA
-
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
-
Highlights: Taft Point fissures, El Capitan view, Yosemite Falls view, amazing sunset view
Note: A shorter, 2.3-mile out-and-back alternative exists at the Taft Point trailhead
The trail meanders through a peaceful lodgepole pine forest before opening up to dramatic vertical fissures and sheer 3,000-foot cliffs overlooking the Yosemite Valley. Guardrails are minimal, so caution is key—but the views are some of the most breathtaking in the entire park.
