The Pacific Crest Trail section from Whitewater Preserve to Stone House offers a challenging 12.4-mile out-and-back trek through the dramatic desert landscape of Southern California. Starting from the scenic Whitewater Preserve at 2,700 feet elevation, this trail section provides hikers with an immersive experience in the rugged terrain of the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

Beginning at the well-maintained Whitewater Preserve, the trail follows the PCT north as it winds through the striking Whitewater Canyon. Hikers gain approximately 1,600 feet in elevation, traversing through desert chaparral and rocky terrain while enjoying expansive views of the surrounding mountains. The historic Stone House serves as the turnaround point, offering a unique glimpse into the area's past.

A highlight of this hike is the dramatic transition from the lush riparian habitat near the preserve to more exposed desert terrain, with the powerful Whitewater River creating a vital wildlife corridor in this arid landscape. The trail offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, including bighorn sheep, deer, and various bird species.
