Get one of the best views of Clear Lake in Northern California, with this intermediate hike in Mt. Konocti County Park.

Hiking to Wright peak offers some of the best views of Clear Lake, California's largest natural freshwater lake. Located just about 2.5 hours north of San Francisco, this hike is accessible and easy to follow.

To get to the trailhead, follow the 101 north to Hopland. Then take the 175 west towards Lakeport. At Lakeport take the 29 south until you reach Kelseyville. Take Main Street west towards Konocti Road, which will take you into the county park. Follow the dirt road up the mountain for about 2 miles until you reach the trailhead and parking. It is clearly marked and plenty of parking spots are available.

The trail will start by taking you through some mature orchards, which are privately owned. Be sure to stay on the marked trail through this section. You will then follow the Wright Peak Trail up through open brush and wooded forest. The ascent does have a fair elevation gain, and there isn't much tree cover along the route. Stay on Wright Peak Trail to reach the highest point. I recommend going either in the morning or late afternoon depending on the season you are visiting, as it can get very hot during the day.

One you reach Wright Peak, you will see the watch tower.  If you're lucky, a friendly fire watch volunteer will invite you up the tower for 360 degree views of Lake County. Either way, the views here are gorgeous, and worth the climb up.
