A beautiful afternoon hike

This trail is a short, easy, accessible and beautiful trail for a nice afternoon walk (or photoshoot).

I recommend the River Walk Trail (~3 miles).  It is flat and easy to walk.  There are multiple loops so you can turn back at any time. There are small bridges, access to the water, meadows, etc.  A great place to see wildlife. You can combine it with the Wetlands Walk Trail (1 mile) and/or the Boardwalk Trail (0.5 mile outlook) to make it a bit longer.

If you show up around Golden Hour, it makes for a beautiful photography backdrop for family photos, engagement shoots, etc. !!

It's not very crowded but has higher volume during weekends for sure.

For more information, you can check out their website:

The visitor center has nice postcards and information for the Preserve.  (but it is currently closed during COVID).

Hike the Cosumnes River Walk Trail Reviews

Visitor’s Center is a must visit! The ranger there is very knowledgable about what animals and birds are out and about. All the trails are great for bird watching.

Lots of parking along the road. Flat trails. Very easy to create your own hike as many of the trails intersect at different points. Plenty of tree cover for hot days.
