Description

San Jacinto Peak via Marion Mountain Trailhead is the shortest route to the peak making it slightly easier to enjoy spectacular panoramic views at the top.

San Jacinto Peak is the second highest peak in Southern California which sits at 10,833'. There are several trails to summit San Jacinto, but Marion Mountain is the shortest but also a tough one.

You will start the hike at an elevation of 6300' and continuously climb 4500' in less than 6 miles. If you're an advanced hiker, you can reach the summit in less than 3 hrs. Make sure you are well prepared before taking this hike. Altitude sickness will be an issue for some and the descent will really challenge your knees. Trekking poles are highly recommended. The trail is pretty much straightforward. Just keep going up, follow the trail signs and you won't get lost.

The views are amazing. There's a lot of trees, boulders, mountains and wildlife that you will enjoy while hiking. At the peak, you will have an epic 360 degree views of the Inland Empire, Palm Desert and the surrounding mountains like San Gorgonio and San Bernardino. If you are descending late afternoon, take photos of the beautiful sunset shining on the trail.

A self-service Wilderness Permit is required. You can easily get one from the kiosk at the Stone Creek Campground. Also, an Adventure Pass is needed for your parking which you can buy from the ranger station and from this list of vendors in California. Plan ahead, start early and enjoy the hike!
