Surf Fish at Oceanside Pier

This is a great place to just relax, fish, and enjoy the sunset.
There are lots of great beaches to fish at in Oceanside. You can fish any of these or you could choose to fish off the Oceanside Pier. You can catch many different species of fish from the shore such as croakers, corbina, surfperch, shovelnose guitarfish, leopard shark, halibut, and rays. In order to catch these fish many different methods can be used. Some use a heavy triangle weight and set their pole down in the sand (For images look here https://www.google.com/search?....). This heavier weight is used to stay put in the rough surf. Also you can use a drop shot or Carolina rig. These are better when using lighter tackle and casting and retrieving. In the summer time sand crabs can be found in the sand and are perfect for bait. Other good baits are squid or bait fish. Artificial lures and soft plastics can also be effective for catching fish.
During the day the can be lots of people on the beach so just be careful not to hook anyone. California also requires anyone over 16 to have a current fishing license. Have fun and good luck fishing!
