Camp at Gold Bluff Beach
Details
Added by Juan Moreno
Awesome beach camping (first come first served), with majestic bluffs, stunning views and amazing sunsets and this National and State Park. There are a few hiking trails nearby and it's a great place for Night Sky photography.
Located at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, the access road to this beach is a dirt road through the redwoods. Once you arrive to the beach area there is a park booth. The charge to overnight is $35 per day. Can also pay a day use fee which is less. The campground is situated some 200 yards from the water. The campground is first come first served so arrive early and if possible during the middle of the week.
Each site contains a table, fire pit, and bear proof storage container for your food. Wildlife is more than common here so make sure you put away any smelly items or dispose of them properly. Bathrooms and showers are located in the center of the campground. Once you are settled in, take in the beautiful views and go out and explore the area. A mile drive down the dirt road and you will find some hiking trails through the forest where you will find creeks and waterfalls. Sunsets here are amazing as you have an un obstructed view of the entire ocean and the bluffs light up nice at sundown.
The water is dangerously cold here, its Northern California, not San Diego. Once the sun goes down, light up your fire pit and enjoy the night sky. You are situated at a good distance from the nearest major city, so light pollution is minimal. The weather does get chilly at night and fairly cool during the day, depending on time of year. Bring a camera because this is definitely a place you want to bring back some pictures from.
You can check for updates on the National Park Services website.

The coast trail here is amazing. There's also a cool canyon hike up Fern Canyon. And a herd of elk hang out here also. The town of Orick is close by, and just north of Orick is another great hike, the Skunk Cabbage Trail.
