Hiking the Wolfsklamm canyon to the Monastery of St. Georgenberg

The Wolfsklamm is a narrow and rocky canyon just outside the village of Stans in Tirol, just 20 minutes from the city of Innsbruck.

There are a few free parking areas in the village with signposts to the start of the trail up the canyon. I've marked the one we used as the trailhead for this hike.

The hike leads up through the narrow canyon, up narrow stair cases, wooded walkways, and through through the occasional tunnel in the rock. As you hike up through the canyon to the monastery, the water is often crashing against the rocks right beside you.

There are about 350 steps in total to climb up, and the hike to the top takes about 1.5 hours. Sometimes it can get a little bit slippery under foot to take you time.

Just before the monastery at the top there's a big wooden bridge that looks like it's straight out of a Harry Potter movie. The monastery at the top serves some locally cooked dishes and has a beer garden.

On the way down take the Pilgrim's trail (Pilgerweg) via Weng back to Stans.
