About this place

Added by Calvin Weibel

This short climb gives hikers one of the best views of central Phoenix at night.

Dobbins lookout is a popular high point in South Mountain Park that offers views of the entire Phoenix area.  It's accessible by road or by trail with no entry fee.  Consider going in the evening for the best views.

If you plan to hike to the top, the shortest route is the Holbert trail.  Take a left after the park entrance and find a place to park.  Cross the road and you'll find the trailhead on the south side.  After a short walk the trail leads to a paved road which you'll follow about 20 yards before the trail begins again.  After this it gets a bit more steep on the way up to the summit.  At the top you'll find a parking lot, restrooms, and an old stone building at the edge of the lookout.  This is a popular spot in the evening and it can get a bit crowded.

From Phoenix take Central south all the way to the mountains.  The road leads directly into South Mountain Park.

Nice Hike to the Lookout
This is a nice hike that leads to the popular lookout on South Mountain. The lookout area is often very busy, especially at sunset.
