Day hike to Laguna Torre at the base of Cerro Torre. Amazing views of Cerro Torre along the way.
This is one of the more popular hikes in El Chalten. There are two trailheads with the main one being on the west side of town at the end of Avenida Charito. There is plenty of parking along the road. The trail ascends quickly from the road and once cresting the hill there are great views of the countryside ahead.
After less than one mile you arrive at Mirador Margarita, a small distant waterfall. The trail rolls up and down to Mirador Torre and your first good glimpse of Cerro Torre.
The trail follows the valley created by Rio Fitzroy. After 6 miles you begin to climb to a ridge and a great view of Laguna Torre and Cerro Torre in the background. Descend down to the laguna for a great location for lunch. It's a little less than 6.5 miles to this point.
Return the way you came for a long 13 mile day.

Reviews
Leave a ReviewA fantastic hike
We did this hike in springtime, so the trail was a bit wet and icy in places, but it was one of my favourites. Cerro Torre and Laguna Torre is incredible, with it's floating icebergs and stunning skyline.
