Cave Creek Trail from Cheaha Trailhead Reviews
This is a moderate to strenuous hike that is best for experiences hikers. There are multiple vistas along the way! Great spot atop Hernandez peak to have a snack and take in the view. The terrain is a bit rough and rocky - trekking poles recommended. Unfortunately the trail lacks in its markings - to follow this loop, you begin on the Pinhoti and follow the blue blazes, when you can find one. It requires quite a bit of rock scrambling and there is one section of the trail just beyond McDill point that is not marked at all. Recommend using gaia to find your way. Trail was poorly maintained in January with several downed trees and leaves covering the paths. There is a pretty cool plane wreckage just before McDill Mt for all you history buffs! Overall i’d recommend the trail if you want to challenge yourself and travel “the path less traveled,” but not a favorite. Also, this ended up being about 8.2 miles with about 1,320 ft of elevation.
