If you are a parent you must know that things change when you have kids. If you are not a parent I'm sure you've seen this happen to friends and family. Everyone these days projects advice on how to build structure and routine to achieve a strong family regime but we sometimes struggle with how boring the result of this is.

Last night we decided to take advantage of the longest day of the year to go on an overnight boating adventure on the coast of Maine.

We are used to throwing a few duffles together and hitting the road, yet this time it was the sea at 6 pm with our very excited two year old son.

We spent the 30 minute boat ride nestled between the wide open choppy Atlantic and the rocky rugged coast. Arriving to a nearly full tide, we set up camp under a small stand of lone pines, collected wood, cooked a simple but delicious meal, enjoyed sunset and slept like babies in our tent. It was so rewarding to to be spontaneous and break the typical parental routines!

We woke up in the morning with a beautifully calm ocean, and sunrise, enjoyed the island all for ourselves and departed at 7:30, so Colin could make it to work.
