Camp at Nitinat Lake
Details
Added by Steve Robert
Nitinat Lake is a true hidden gem of Vancouver Island. Kitesurfers come from all around the world to enjoy the warm winds of this beautiful brackish water lake. The water temperature is about 18 degrees and the location of the campground is awesome.
Nitinat Lake is located about 70 km from Lake Cowichan on Vancouver Island. It's about a 2 h drive from Lake Cowichan with 1 h on logging roads. When you get close to Lake Cowichan, the highway splits into two possible routes, one on the south side of the lake, the second on the north side. Since the road to Nitinat is at the west end of the lake, it's pretty much a toss-up. Follow one of the roads until you come to a gravel road.
Once you are on the logging road you will see some intersections; you have to follow the main road all the way, signs will help you. The last turn to your left will lead you to Nitinat (the right go to Port Alberni) and once you've passed the village the road will leads you to the campground.
