Short and sweet trail with nice views of the park. Large enough parking lot for the trailhead. Picnic area and rest rooms at parking lot.

Challenging hike with a stunning turquoise lake as your reward. Totally worth the burn! It is steep! The road to the trail head is long. There is some free camping near the trailhead.

Come in the summer to see the endless wildflowers. Pictures do not do this place justice! It is not necessary to do the whole trail if you can’t do the elevation gain. The road to the basin is a rough 4WD road with a lot of off roading vehicles.

Even if you don’t plan to finish the hike, just getting to the trailhead is one of the most beautiful sights in Colorado. The American Basin is full of wildflowers in the summer, and it is spectacular to see. The road to the trail is rough and sometimes scary but worth it. Pretty mild for a 14er but still very challenging.

This is a nice alpine lake hike without a large crowd. Road is a little bumpy. The trail is pretty long but has a great reward. Can be windy at the lake!

Cool old mine buildings on an easy trail. Not too much elevation gain. I recommend going in the fall to see the aspens!

Didn’t do the whole trail. Hiked to the big open basin and turned around. It was pretty. Georgia Pass is pretty smooth and there is a big parking area at the trailhead.

You can drive up to this beautiful lake (with a waterfall) if you have 4WD, but it gets extremely crowded and can get scary at times especially if you have to pass someone. I don’t recommend driving if you don’t have experience on rough and crowded 4WD roads. People hike up to the lake as well. They are strict about parking at the bottom of the road so be aware.

We came here and backpacked for 1 night. We had an incredible view from our tent. We eloped and got married here in 2019! Amazing place and not very crowded at all. A lot of people are there to complete the 14ers. Highly recommend this lake hike in Westcliffe.

The star of this hike to me is not Island Lake but Ice Lake. The color of island lake is not extremely turquoise like you see on Instagram, however Ice Lake is more blue than you could imagine! Still worth the trek over to Island Lake. We made it a loop and walked down from Island Lake. Very steep downhill. I left with plenty of blisters.

My favorite hike in Colorado. The blue color of this lake is UNREAL. It is so clear. If you are feeling brave, you can jump in. Beware the water is absolutely freezing. The hike is hard. Extremely hard. The parking is so small, so get there very early. I went before the fire, so I am not sure what kind of impact that had on shade coverage on the way up.

One of my favorites if not my favorite waterfall in the area. The water was extremely clear. We had it almost to ourselves on a sunny day in July. Don’t skip this one.

If you can snag an oceanfront spot, do it. So nice to hear the ocean from our campsite. Reservations fill up fast in the summer

Giant trees! Not much you can do with dogs. The drive was pretty.

Nice place to visit if you are in the area. We had dogs so we couldn’t do the trails. We saw what we wanted to see in the car. A half a day is all you need.

We went at the end of July 2022. The hike was beautiful. Lots of wildflowers but towards the end of the peak. Just before you get to the lake is so gorgeous. The lake is nice. Check the weather. We got poured on the way down and it was miserable. If there is a chance of rain be prepared. Lots of parking.

You have to pay to park on weekends which kind of sucks. Also there are not a lot of spots in the lot. The trail is nice with an incline. Gets hot in the summer!!

Easy hike from Bear Lake parking lot. The color is unreal. Went in October before the freeze and weather was beautiful. Needed a permit online to get to the parking lot so plan ahead for that. Likely will be crowded but so worth it.

Very long drive out but so beautiful. Some of the approaches are steep. The rock is gorgeous. Gets crowded!! Fun to watch the climbers.

This place gets so windy. It is cool to check out but I wouldn’t go out of your way to visit.

If you are driving past it is worth stopping to check out. Also fun to watch the climbers right next door at Wall Street.

This gets crowded but if you can find a spot then it is worth checking out. Cool petroglyphs at the end!!

Scenic drive is right! This is a beautiful road right out of town. Don’t skip the Fisher Towers trail!

Very short trail from parking lot. Definitely worth stopping if you can get a spot. Gives you a taste of what the Fiery Furnace is like if you weren’t able to get the permit.
