The secret is out on this gorgeous alpine lake close to Denver. There is a 4WD road the whole way up to the lake but it is rough and can get crowded, so be prepared to hold on to the edge of your seats. A lot of hikers along the road as well. There is a pretty large parking lot at the top. Popular with fisherman, off roaders, and nature seekers. Lots to explore here, including a second lake above the main one.

Past the more established area of the campground there is free dispersed camping on a few different spurs of the road. Just a fire pit at the dispersed spots. Nothing special but if you find other places are full, it is worth taking a look here. Pretty in the fall when the aspens change.

Very easy trail, relatively flat and wide to a lookout over Lake Dillon. Can get crowded because it is so short and sweet, but worth stopping if you can get a spot. The view is so nice! If you continue, the trail heads up higher and loops back around to the parking area.

Be sure to take the pull over on the way up to the summit of Mt Evans to see the bristlecone pines! There is a parking area and trailhead that makes a little loop. Take it for at least a little while to see these ancient trees!

This lake is right on the side of the road at the entrance to the road up to Mt Evans. Easy access from Denver and Evergreen, so it gets busy in the summer. There is a trail around the lake, picnic tables, and a bathroom. Nice place to enjoy nature close to the city. The drive up is beautiful!

Had to park in town by the post office and walk up to the trailhead. There are a lot of old rock piles from the mine in the way up. It was cool to spend some time looking at them. A lot of them had cool colors and features! Steady incline up to some old mine buildings. Had to turn around there because of snow and ice. Cool hike close to Denver. Worth checking out!

The scenery is 10/10. The hike is beautiful the whole way, especially when you are hiking along the gorgeous raging riverside. There is a cool waterfall on the way up. This is a long trail to Missouri Lakes. Once you feel like you might almost be there, you open into a big basin with avalanche debris and have to hike even higher up. Lots of elevation gain. The lakes are pretty but I almost think the actual hike is the star with all there is to see and the changing scenery as you go. BRING BUG SPRAY!

Too snowy to make it to the memorial, but saw cool old mine buildings and lots of old rock piles and mining equipment. Steady incline, but not too hard! Will go back in the summer to see the memorial. Had to park in town by the post office and walk up.

This hike was beautiful start to finish! Wide open green hills and plenty of wildflowers. We saw a huge amount of columbines at peak wildflower season! The lake is gorgeous and there is plenty of room to spread out, plus some camping spots if you wanted to backpack in.

Cool ghost town at the main hub of many 4WD trails. You can walk into a lot of the buildings. There is parking there. From Silverton, the road to the ghost town is not bad, but be weary on the other trails if you are new to off road driving!

I have done this road twice, both times starting from Lake City. The start is relatively easy and then becomes more cliffy. Start early to avoid the bulk of the traffic. It will get crowded in the summer. Stop at American Basin before heading to the ghost town on the other side of the pass!

Very easy access trail down to the beach. If it is sunny the sand gets very hot for doggy paws. We had to carry ours out! This is a surfing spot.

4WD trail to a couple nice lakes! It is a bumpy road that is narrow in places. I recommend havi by experience driving on off road trails before attempting. A beautiful spot close to Denver! Probably can’t drive all the way until late summer because of snow.

Good place to escape crowds and see fall colors. In the trees for most of the hike. Connects to a few other trails in the area. We did just a couple miles and turned around. Only saw a few people end of September.

This trail has a lot of fun features but it is crowded! You may not find a parking spot. Bring lots of water as there is almost no shade.

One of my favorite hikes in Moab. The scale of the rock formations is unreal. The color of the rock is so vibrant. There is a ladder that is part of the trail. I would say it is not necessary to go all the way to the end of the trail as it is mainly just a viewpoint. It gets hot so be prepared with lots of water! Fun to watch the climbers! There is a bathroom at the parking area.

Cool hike with a bridge and unexpected waterfall! What a surprise. If you are in the area definitely stop here. It is hard to find so do some research before coming.

Fun place to get out and explore! Lots of short trails you can easily take them all and spend a few hours here. There is also a sea cave! Lots of wildflowers in July and even wild succulents! Very cool place with views in every direction.

This is one of the only dog friendly “hikes” in the Redwoods. It is a road (currently gated) open to hikers. There is parking at the gate, probably about 6 or 7 spots. The side trails are not dog friendly. We saw a lot of cool trees and slugs.

Super easy and unique trail that climbs up a big ocean rock. Very fun. Easy to combine with Patrick’s Point trail. Good amount of parking.

Great vantage point of the ocean! Very easy trail with ample parking. Good signage

Long drive to the trailhead. There were lots of open parking spots in December. We hiked to Wigwam dome and turned around. We had to take a climbing access trail to get to the base of the dome. Very cool rock formations on this trail. Lots of shade.

This is a nice intro to Staunton. There is so much to see in this park. This trail goes up high with great views and has a big elevation gain. Mason creek trail gets extremely icy in the winter so be prepared. I recommend going clockwise.

I have not done this full trail, but the Staunton Ranch Trail is a relatively flat wide trail popular with hikers and mountain bikers. There is a new parking lot in the park that makes some of the longer trails much shorter! Beautiful park!
