If there is no other camping available it is easy to find a spot here

On the river and close to the bouldering area. Gets busy.

This trail gets sketchier than I imagined it to be from other reviews. Once you get over to the river side the views are amazing. Totally worth it!

Moab is incredible, and this hike is one of Moab’s best outside of Arches. The views are beautiful and lots of things to explore in the canyon.

Come for the fall colors, stay for the cute family of sheep! It’s a nice surprise to see them in the beautiful Aspen groves! Come in fall for colors or wildflowers in the summer.

Relatively easy off road trail, however some parts are sketchy, narrow, and rough. Lots of OHV traffic. The views are incredible almost the whole time!

This is the main campground at the park. There is an awesome short little trail to the visitor center with great views. Campground has bathrooms but no shower.

There are a handful of lake-view spots. If you can snag one of those, you will be glad you did!

This off road trail gets steep, narrow, and very exposed as you start approaching the lake. If you are up for that, then this lake is a gorgeous stop while in the area!

Easy to access falls- just a short walk from the parking lot. Fun caves to explore beyond the falls. In the winter it is cool to see the frozen water.

This is a very popular area to fish and hike. The parking lot gets full almost every weekend year round! It’s a beautiful river destination and is not a hard approach. Short and sweet with big pay off.

This is a cool area with off roading but people come here to shoot guns so be aware that you will hear gun shots if you camp here. There are a handful of free dispersed spots along the road. Plenty of room to spread out!

The mountain bike trails are located at a gate if you continue past the main entrance to the reservoir. These are cool trails with nice rock formations. Some of the trails lead to the shoreline. It gets extremely hot in the summer. Nice spot in the early evening. Not too crowded.

Flat easy drive from Canon City to Cripple Creek with beautiful scenery and cool rock formations. The road is easy the whole way and a 2WD car could pull it off. Recommend!

I wouldn’t drive hours just to do this one road, but if you are in Canon City, you should take this road! It is a thrilling narrow, one way road up above Canon City. The views are nice. Only takes about 15 minutes.

A nice wide open sandy beach with a great beach front campground (if you can snag a spot!) Summertime gets a little crowded. The sunset from this beach is beautiful and we saw people having a beach bonfire. Nice place for a picnic if it isn’t windy.

This trail is a fun easy walk down to Hobbit Beach. The trail walks thus wooded area with cool little “hobbit holes” in the bushes. The sandy beach at the end feels very secluded and has nice rocky features. This trail from highway 101 also connects to the lighthouse.

If you want a lake front spot you will need to reserve as early as possible on recreation.gov! This is a nice campground on Turquoise Lake in Leadville.

Turquoise lake in Leadville is worth visiting. There are a handful of nice campgrounds along the shore, some with beautiful lake views. Most are reservable online. The road goes around the whole lake with stops for scenic viewpoints. There are hiking trails that start on this road as well. What a place!

This area in Buffalo Creek has some cool and large rock formations. You could spend hours climbing around on the rocks here. There is a paid parking lot, but also a few free pull offs for parking. There is free camping on the road further up, but to fills up quickly in the summer. Popular with mountain bikers.

Classic Colorado climbing destination. There is a fee to get into Eldorado Canyon State Park unless you have a pass. There is not a lot of parking for the amount of people that want to see and climb this beautiful canyon, so get there early.

This trail is so close to Denver but feels so far away. There is a very large parking area at this Jefferson County open space with clean bathrooms and garbage cans. The trails are easy to follow but make sure to check the map to see which ones you have to take. We went on a gloomy day and it made it even more special. The top of Bill Couch mountain is small but it feels like a big accomplishment. Fun trail! The bottom can get really muddy.

If planning a trip to drive up to Fall River Reservoir, you may want to wait until late summer. The snow gets deep and the shady 4WD road up to the reservoir does not melt quickly. Once you make it, there is a lot of parking and a nice reservoir to take in the beautiful surrounding mountains.
