Description

Added by Outbound

The BB to Reiling Dredge to Minnie Mine trail in Colorado offers a moderately challenging hike rich in mining history and scenic beauty. This is a well-marked trail, which takes hikers past historical remnants like old mining equipment and the Reiling Dredge. The route offers great mountain views and is well-suited for families and history enthusiasts.

Hikers recommend bringing water, as shade is limited, especially in warmer months. The loop is moderately trafficked, making it a quiet and scenic escape with plenty of historical significance.

HISTORY:

In the early 1900s, gold dredge boats revived hydraulic mining in Breckenridge, excavating riverbeds for submerged gold and leaving behind large rock piles. Nine dredges transformed the valley floors, creating wealth for mine owners but causing significant landscape disruption. The historic Reiling Dredge, one of the last of these vessels, was stabilized in 2018 by the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance to prevent further decay and preserve its legacy.

B&B to Reiling Dredge to Minnie Mine Reviews

Cool old mine buildings on an easy trail. Not too much elevation gain. I recommend going in the fall to see the aspens!
