Chihuly Glass Garden
Seattle, Washington
Description
Added by Leah Dawdy
Make a pit stop right next to the Space Needle for this walk-through of a spectacular glass garden.
The Chihuly Garden and Glass is a unique art gallery with glass artwork created by Dale Chihuly. Guests enter the gallery under a glass ceiling mosaic and wander through dimly lit rooms hosting bright art installments, all of which have been inspired by places Chihuly has been. The row boats (pictured), for example, is inspired by Chihuly's time in Finland as he threw glass into the water; local fishermen would fetch the glass pieces and bring them back to shore. The Glasshouse (a greenhouse with a long stretch of large suspended flowers) provides for amazing photographs of the Space Needle, and the outside segment, the Garden, begs for reflection shots in the spheres and waving grasslike spikes.
It's a wonderful place to take art enthusiasts, children, and people who simply like to sit, chill, or people-watch. There are benches outside for guests and photography is very much encouraged.
You might want to take advantage of the free online audio tour. It covers each piece and where Chihuly drew inspiration for them.
